Next meeting: June 13th, 2010
-Spring Shoot is June 5th and 6th. Help is always needed for the range, kitchen
primitive, and shotgun (come on out volunteer for a bit and shoot). Invite
neighbors, friends, or anyone that has expressed an interest in muzzle loading,
as the Spring and Fall shoots are a good time to let people see what we do.
Scott and Janet Langworthy would like to invite all club members to their daughter, Melissa’s wedding on Saturday June 12th, 2010, 4:00 in the afternoon at the Lansing Muzzle Loading Gun Club in Laingsburg, MI. Reception to follow.
Correction: Last month’s newsletter under Old Business I mistakenly
put 3 Rivers instead of 3 Fires group was going to use the Primitive range.
Sorry about that. Larry

President Don Tilton called the meeting to order, lead us in the Pledge and
read the Second Amendment.
TREASURY REPORT: by J.B. Brotherton.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE: Gary talked
about the Round Robin held at our club, Gary said there were 12 shooters (only
5 not from our club). Gary announced that “Dashing Don” Tilton
bested all shooters with his trusty smokepole. Gary said they all ate well.
The Round Robin was started in1994. Gary reported the week before the shoot
was at DSC, and they made the targets real hard.
SHOTGUN: Hope to have
Saturday 1 PM shoots start again.
RANGE: No report.
GROUNDS: Weekend work parties starting after Mother’s Day.
KITCHEN: Scott said they plan on getting the new sink hocked up before the Spring Shoot. Once again Scott thanked everyone who has donated supplies to the kitchen.
The kitchen can still use donations of the following:
BOTTLED WATER 16oz,
POP 12oz cans:
PEPSI, DIET PEPSI, CAFF FREE PEPSI, CAFF FREE DIET PEPSI, MT. DEW, DIET MT.
DEW, COKE, DIET COKE, 7-UP, DIET 7-UP, ROOT BEER
Old Business: Gary
reported that the wood for the pole barn was delivered on April 29th,
all the permits have been approved for the pole barn and shotgun cover. When
Gary talked to the guy from Carter Lumber, Gary was told building supplies
have gone up, and we saved quite a bit of money by getting it ordered and
paid for when we did. Sheet lumber has doubled in some cases. Gary’s
plan for the Pole Barn is to get the old shed moved, so we can still use it
while the new pole barn is being built. Gary’s main concern is to not
make a mess before the Spring Shoot; he talked about getting the site measured
off and batter boards in place; and if possible holes drilled and footings
pored for the inspectors. Gary answered a question about the size of the pole
barn ( 24 x 32) and the type of roof material (regular shingles).
JB reported the new Consumers bill was $38.64, we only used 18 kilowatt hours
of electricity; but they tack on so many different taxes over half the bill
was taxes.
New Business: Larry
Cummins announced that the well was on and the combination would be changed
after the Fall Shoot. Larry also said he can get us a larger electrical panel
if we need one
Larry also noted it was time to get the well water checked.
The outhouse closest to the club house needs to be fixed before the Spring
Shoot as critters have chewed it up pretty bad. Jim Brotherton said he would
get on it.
Show & Tell: Bruce
Robb brought in some Hickory stick ramrod blanks he was making . He said he
starts out with a 5”-6” diameterpiece of wood He peals the bark
and starts splitting with a Fro or hatchet , you want sap wood he said. Let
it dry ( about 2 months), then final shape it.
Chuck brought in one of his finely crafted specimens, 1 .45 caliber flint
that he hasn’t shot yet.
“Dashing Don” Tilton is making a powder horn, his 1st attempt.
He is off to a great start and is going to try his hand at scrimshaw using
a book of folk art that he is borrowing from Bruce Robb.
Larry Boettcher brought in a turkey beard, 10.5 inches. Larry said he setup
at 5:40 in the morning and waited 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 ----nothing.
Heads back to get some grub, looks down on the trench in the field and there
“Big Tom” was. Now the ordeal begins: he gets behind a big Oak,
but the sun’s in his eyes, has to move
He turns his socks inside out (crusty side in, quieter) and starts to crawl,
realizing he hasn’t got down to his speedo weight, his backside looks
like a 1 hump camel, he decides to suck in his gut and tighten his belt, and
squirm the last ¼ mile to get within 32.5 paces of “Big Tom”,
and the rest is history. Larry’s working on a book “ How to go
30 days with 3 pair of socks and 2 pair of underware”.
As much fun as Larry had telling his story, he got even more joy by telling
how Brett got his self a 2 inch bearded turkey. Larry also brought in some
internal primer pinfire cartridges to show
Jim Snyder announced that Sauk Trails no longer has a range to shoot at.
MTAj – Lrry Cummins, 2nd - Jim Brotherton
50/50 Raffle: Winner
was JB, JB donated his winnings back to the club.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE: Jim Pinkel thanked everyone who helped make this year’s Winter Woods Walk the best ever. With 46 shooters it was quite busy on the Primitive Range. When the 1st shooter started the course, the temp-o-meter read 10 degrees, the sun came out and the wind was nonexistent, a beautiful cold January day. When the shooters returned to the start, they found a nice fire, hot coffee, hot food and snacks waiting for them. There were numerous compliments made about the range and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Jim thanked everyone who brought food, drinks, snacks, helped with getting the course ready, plowing the roads. Finally, Jim thanked all the shooters who came out and braved the cold and the deep snow and made this a great shoot.
SHOTGUN: No report.
RANGE: No report.
GROUNDS: No report.
KITCHEN: Scott thanked George Albrecht for donating 1,000 cups and plates. (Thanks George)
Old Business:
Don reported that the "American Civil War Shooting Association" (a group of shooters from the NSSA that have started their own group) is still interested in scheduling a shoot.
Don , also reported that the NSSA would like to rent our club house for their meetings; this will be discussed at the board meeting.
JB announced he was going to send a letter to Consumers Energy and the Michigan Public Service Commission to hopefully clear up the Consumers Energy bills. JB passed out a sheet showing what Consumers showed for the readings on our meter. Consumers said they took actual readings for October, November, and December, but they showed the same meter reading at the end of September,( they never read the meter for 3 months even though they said they did. JB took the reading just before the January meeting and it was less than what Consumers showed back in October. JB also showed where our payments to Consumers for the year of 2009 were $2,971.63; our total payments for the years 2001 thru 2008 were $7,863.87. Consumers said we used 22,484 Kwh in 2009 and 64,984 for the total of the years 2001 thru 2008. JB is on a mission. (Go JB, Go JB, Go).
New Business: JB announced that The Lapeer Contemporary Muzzleloading Arms & Accouterments Show will be March 7th.
A board meeting was scheduled for February 14th following the general meeting.
2010 Shoot dates for LMLGC
Spring Shoot ----- June 5th and 6th Fall Shoot ----- September 4th and 5th
Turkey Shoot ----- October 2th and 3rd Winter Woods Walk ----- January 8th , 2011
Show & Tell: Bruce Robb brought in his new wood carving set that he got for Xmas. Larry Cummins told him it was a really good quality set (sharp tool spring steel). Bruces’ Mum really really loves him. She found out that he would like the wood carving set, ordered it, wrapped it, and waited till Xmas morning for her little Bruce to open his Xmas gift. Bruce however decided he would carefully unwrap it, try them out , and then carefully wrapped them back up for Xmas morning.
Chuck brought in "Old Faithful", an 1870 Remington style .39 caliber rifle. Chuck said he bought it in 1938 for $5.00 and used 38 caliber wad cutters to win many matches.
50/50 Raffle: Winner was George Albrecht, George donated his winnings back to the club.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Jim Pinkel passed out some fliers for the upcoming Winters Wood Walk (Saturday
January 9th, 2010). Jim said he was going to take Friday off to get things
ready. He announced a change to the flyer; sponsor a youth (17 and under)
for the shoot and they shoot free. Come on out and have a good time.
Jim is looking for prizes, if you have something to donate, call him.
The discussion lead to dressing warm with joking remarks made about a few
of the members needing
to make sure they wore a hat, so at least something was covering their heads.
Bruce Robb responded in his usual quick witted way, that the reason he was
follicley challenged was in the way that he taught the kids how to use a micrometer,
he would pull a hair (off the top of his head) for a sample for each class.
SHOTGUN: No report.
RANGE: No report.
GROUNDS: No report.
KITCHEN: No report.
Old Business:
Gary reported that he received a letter from the zoning Committee stating
we had completed all the necessary paper work and our site plan is in substantial
compliance (Good job Gary). This means the building permit is applied for
and we should get our permit in mid to late January.
Gary asked about paying off the Carter Lumber balance on the building material.
This had already been approved by the board, so there was no problem seeing
that it was done.
Larry Boettcher wanted to know how much our taxes were going to go up, The
tax increase won’t be known until the final inspection.
John Streeter mentioned that several of the Carter Lumber Stores had closed
up, and maybe we should get the materials delivered sooner than later.
New Business: Larry Boettcher wondered if we should continue having the Turkey Shoot as it didn’t make any money for the club. Several members pointed out that it was a bad weather weekend, MSU and Michigan were playing, and there were a couple other shoots that weekend. Don said he had already talked with a couple of members about reducing the number of prizes in the primitive area. Another point brought up was that for some members this was an event they could enter (because they were busy working at the Spring and Fall shoots). Don said it is something the board had looked at last year and will continue to look at, to see if it continues to lose money.
Scott said that when Jim and Mike stopped by the club house during deer hunting season, the front door had been left unlocked, food was left out, and the gas had been left on.
If you use the clubhouse or come out to the property, make sure you
turn every thing off, pickup after yourself, and lockup.
Election Ballots were counted, and the winner for Director at Large is:
Rick Angevine
The totals were Rick Angevine - 23, Larry Cummins – 21, and Steve Dennis
– 13.
Congratulations Rick
JB needs to know if any members are also members of the NRA or NMLRA; if
you are,
Please let him know. He will need your membership number, also.
Gary talked to Trevor from Shiawassee County about what changes were needed
to the kitchen for the club to hold more than 5 events a year (the max we
can currently hold). Trevor said there are a couple of clubs that right now
are allowed to hold 6 or 7 events without doing any changes, so it might be
possible for the club to hold another event (if needed) without any changes
being done.
Scott said the changes if we ever did decide to upgrade would cost thousands
of dollars, for starters we would need an improved septic system and a hooded
exhaust system for the kitchen. One of the biggest things to consider is the
man-woman hours it takes to run the kitchen for an event.
Gary wanted everyone to know that the county is more than willing to work
with us, and that he felt that we have developed a good relationship with
all the officials from the county.
JB said the members of the NSSA group (original group not spinoff) had contacted
him about using
our club house for their meetings. Don said it would be something the board
could look at, and would have to get answers to questions about insurance,
liability issues, and more information from the group.
Bruce Robb wanted to thank Gary for working with the Shiawassee County officials,
and developing such a professional working relationship with the officials
he worked with (must be Gary’s baby face).
JB got a letter from the State muzzleloading association about dates for our
2010 shoots.
As of now the dates are:
Spring Shoot ----- June 5th and 6th
Fall Shoot ----- September 4th and 5th
Turkey Shoot ----- October 2th and 3rd
Winter Woods Walk ----- January 8th , 2011
Show & Tell: JB brought in some catalogs he had received for everyone
to look at: Pedersoli, Uberti, and a company that makes flags.
Don Tilton brought in an antler from his 7 point, along with knowledge that
Mike Beaty had bestowed on him. Don told how Mike, being the proverbial teacher
that he is, taught him a new “Teaching Moment” complete with a
mental image. Don said he shot the deer, but it wasn’t quite dead yet.
Mike decided to stand on the deer’s antlers to hold it still, for the
final shot; as Mike picked his self off the ground, he was left with the 2
question; whether he should put on a few more pounds for next years deer hunt,
or never giving a deer the opportunity to put him on his butt again.
Larry Cummins brought in a carved eagle head cane made of a hard maple shaft
with a basswood carved eagle head.
Leon Dennis brought and donated a pair of forged thongs for the primitive
group to use when making fires. He also brought in a take down under hammer
.45 cal rifle he had made.
Larry Peterson brought in few items that he had questions on; a cartridge
pouch, a spearhead, and a
9mm muzzleloader that was determined to be a smooth bore.
Bruce Robb brought in a rifle off his bench that he has been working on, Bruce
said the piece of wood was skinny but that it had a nice curl to it, it has
a 42” barrel. Bruce also had picture of 2 people and him
rifling the barrel down at Friendship. He also had a jig that he had made
for filing off thimbles square.
Chuck brought in 2 pistols that are completely alike, you can interchange
all the parts, it’s that identical. Chuck told the story of a guy who
lost an eye and 2 fingers by not being careful when he was shooting his tip
up black powder shotgun. Don’t get complacent, safety first.
50/50 Raffle: Winner was Rick Angevine, Rick donated his winnings back to the club.

TREASURY REPORT: by J.B. Brotherton.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE: Gary reported they had 13 shooters for the Swamp Shoot, some 1st timers. They eat better that they shot. The smooth bore (trade guns) shooter shot just as well as the rifled bore shooters.
1st place rifle when to Steve Dennis and 1st place smooth bore went to Don Tilton. Bruce Robb told the 1st place winners to get their tags made up so they can be added to the plaques in the club house. A big round of thanks was sent out to the Tilton’s, Greene’s, and Harper’s for the great food. Dick Allen (the wealth of information) told us the one plaque was made out of wood from an old outhouse.
Jim Pinkel talked about the upcoming Winters Wood Walk (Saturday January 9th, 2010). He encouraged members to sponsor a youth (17 and under) for the shoot and to come on out and have a good time.
SHOTGUN: No report.
RANGE: No report.
GROUNDS: No report.
KITCHEN: No report.
Old Business:
Gary reported on the equipment building. The zoning committee sent him a letter with questions, Gary said this was an opportunity to get square with them, as because of a fire they had lost a bunch of papers telling the zoning committee when things were done and which things fell under grandfather clauses. When Gary sent them a map for the new construction, there were things on there they didn’t have listed. This allowed Gary to make them aware of what we had and also what we would like to do in the future (working on the campground and parking). He answered all their question and felt both sides left with a better understanding of what we do and that we want to keep a good working relationship with the committee. We don’t need a runoff barrier the committee said and we should have final answer soon, the various committees need to get together and look at all the permits and make sure they didn’t forget anything. Gary wasn’t sure if some work could be started this Fall (Winter) or if everything would be done next Spring. Gary said we need to get Carter Lumber paid. The shotgun pavilion is in the documents Gary submitted. Thank you Gary for all the time (filling out paper work and meeting with all the committees) you have invested for the club on this project.
New Business: Don reported the that he had been talking to Chris Hubbard (NSSA commander of the group that shoots at our club). The group is splitting off from the NSSA and will now be known as
American Civil War Shooting Association. Don said he will keep us informed as he gets more information.
Election Ballots are due at the December 13th meeting.
JB got a letter from the State muzzleloading association about dates for our 2010 shoots.
As of now the dates are:
Spring Shoot ----- June 5th and 6th
Fall Shoot ----- September 4th and 5th
Turkey Shoot ----- October 2th and 3rd
Winter Woods Walk ----- January 8th , 2011
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Show & Tell: Chuck brought in the last 2 rifles he made, the one was the mate to the pistol he brought in the last meeting.
John Dyer went to Williamsburg, Virginia and brought back a copy of a Spanish dollar (used up to the 1820s) it had rough edges so it couldn’t be shaved (a common practice in those days). John said the coin had different values depending on which city you were in. John went to the glass house and bought a ceramic bird house that he plans on putting up.
Bruce Bruegge brought in 22 lb. Mountain gun he has been building. The barrel is an original, he made the carriage himself. Bruce said this is the type of gun that would have been used at the battle of Falling Timbers. The Battle of Fallen Timbers, August 20, 1794, has been called the last battle of the American Revolution and one of the 3 most important battles in the development of our nation. The battle took place where present day Maumee, Ohio is.
Mike Beaty and Don Tilton went on a squirrel hunt with the Michigan Squirrel Dog Hunting Association. The Association has about 100 members, this is an very old hunting sport. The association has a nighttime raccoon hunt every so often. Mike and Don took up flintlocks and got a kick out of the response they got. Mike said they walked about a mile and the tracking collar on the dogs showed the dogs went about 10 miles.
Bruce robb brought in 2 knifes he made with Damascus blades.
Bruce Robb thanked everyone who brought in something for show and tell.
Bruce Robb talked about being Vice-President soon, and has decided to take on the persona of Lord Robb and is looking for indentured servants.
50/50 Raffle: Winner was George Albrecht, George donated his winnings back to the club.

TREASURY REPORT: by
J.B. Brotherton.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE: No Gary, It was reported that the Primitive range had 28 shooter, 11 of them being women at the Fall Shoot.
SHOTGUN: Mike Beatty reported the Asheley Shoot was a big success. There were 20 shooters, the final tally was LMLGC 20.08 and Asheley 20.88. Mike said the embarrassing thing was some of the Asheley shooters did better with the muzzleloaders than we did. The Fall shoot had 20-25 shot gunners and the night shoot was a lot of fun. The LMLGC shotgun range is open on Saturdays at 1 PM, (the weekend of the monthly meeting, the range is open on Sunday before the meeting).
RANGE: No report.
GROUNDS: Larry Cummins has stepped down as grounds chair, due to health concerns; if anyone wants to be grounds chair let Don know.
KITCHEN: Scott thanked Leon Dennis for welding the sink; everyone who donated supplies to the kitchen. The Fall Shoot kept the kitchen very busy. The figures aren’t in yet, but the kitchen definitely did good. The donations to the kitchen really help and are appreciated. Scott thanked everyone who helped out in the kitchen.
RAFFLE: We have a winner; Robert Crandall of St. Clair, MI, Robert was at the Fall Shoot so it was easy for us to get the raffle package to him. He bought the winning ticket at the State Shoot in July. I believe he said he bought a total of 7 tickets. Larry hadn’t been able to get a hold of Robert to find out how he got into muzzle loading.
Larry Peterson reported we had a very successful Raffle. Larry thanked everyone who donated the items for the raffle; Seth Hootman, Bruce Bruegge, John Dyer, Larry Cummins, and Ross McAvoy. Larry thanked everyone who helped sell tickets, individually and at the shows we attended
Old Business:
J.B. reported the club received a $280.00 adjustment from Consumers Energy, he’s still trying to get them to increase the adjustment.
Several Ground fault plugs have had to be changed and a circuit breaker was tripping before it was suppose to. JB and Scott recommended the ground faults all be replaced and to take a look at all the breakers.
Gary received another form needing another permit (and more money) for the equipment building, but wanted everyone to know progress is being made, although slowly.
New Business: JB gave us some info on the Fall Shoot; we had 108 registered shooter (it’s been over 10 years since we had numbers this high). We had a very successful Fall Shoot.
Don Tilton got a letter from Melissa Taylor that he read. Melissa wanted to encourage all the clubs to put aside their differences and get along. Melissa talked about most of the clubs she was familiar with having internal problems; with egos, rivalries among groups within the clubs, and between clubs. She felt so much more could be accomplished if the clubs worked together.
Club members felt we were doing a good job with internal communications and dealing with
any problems between internal groups. The main problem that was brought up with other clubs was them changing their schedules to conflict with events that we scheduled long before their event was even planned. We’ve had very successful shoots with good feedback from guest by doing everything
we can to make them feel welcome; something we plan on continually doing, for a long time.
Ron Shull has earned the honor to wear the to wear "The dry ball necklace of Lead" till someone takes it away from him. I thought it looked better on Rick, Oh well.
Steve and Leon Dennis (2 newer members) wanted to know if there was an orientation class for new members. They shot in the Spring Shoot and they weren’t sure of all the steps and the order in which to do them. Their sponsors are suppose to walk them through the rules and explain to them what is involved in participating in a shoot; and answer any questions they have. One idea was to have new member meeting before one of the shoots. Right now the best thing to do is ask your sponsor, if you have questions and if you are a sponsor take the time to help your new member with any questions he or she has, maybe walk them through a shoot.
Don and Gary picked up the propane tank from John and Rita. Thanks guys.
Jim Galigher is stepping down from running the "Monte Heiser Memorial Youth Match"; Mike Young and Jim Brotherton have agreed to take over the Match. If indeed this is Jims’ last "Monte Heiser" he has to feel great about the turn out at the Fall Shoot, we had 25 excited participants. The young girl that won the match took home a trophy almost as tall as she was. Thank you, Jim.
There was talk about making signs for the Spring and Fall Shoots covering;
* Please police after you dog
* Days and Hours for the kids Hawk and Knife
* Days and Hours for Kids shooting area in the woods by the 100 yard range
* When people camp, to get a camp number and where and when to register and
take care of electrical hookup
Show & Tell: Leon Dennis brought in a 20 gauge flint fowler patterned after a 1730 piece, he said it was actually an 18 gauge. Leon made everything for the gun except the lock assembly.
John Dyer brought in a pistol case for bullets and a powder flask holder. John gives club members $10.00 off any of his pouches and he can make you a custom one if you like.
50/50 Raffle: Winner was Mike Beaty.
Next meeting: October 11th.
John Dyer will hold a shoot before the meeting; start about 10 AM.

President Don Tilton called the meeting to order, lead us in the Pledge and read the Second Amendment.
TREASURY REPORT: Don Tilton read the treasurer’s report for J.B. Brotherton.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE: Dick Allen reported that 47 different shooters went through the primitive range at the Spring shoot. One new shooter to our range, said it was the best primitive range he had shot at, and he would be back. Don talked about how club participation in the Round Robins really helped spread the word on our Spring shoot.
SHOTGUN: Mike Beaty
reported that Friday they had a good turnout and shotgun made
$ 397.00 at the Spring Shoot.
Mike said someone has been shooting the patterning board with large bullets
or slugs. The patterning board is for shotgun pellets 7.5 or smaller size.
Mike did an experiment where the only change he made between 2 shots on the
patterning board was the black powder he used. The Chinese black powder patterned
real nice but the Goex pattern was spread out, with holes; Mike says “if
you change anything in your load, you have to recheck.”
The traphouse will be open on Saturdays at 1pm
RANGE: Mike Young thanked everyone who helped out at the Spring Shoot . Mike said he learned a few things and felt the Spring Shoot went well.
GROUNDS: Larry Cummins
that the Ford tractor mower needed some repairs done to it.
Larry talked about the new post holders and felt they should really help out
with the next NSSA Shoot.
KITCHEN: Scott thanked
everyone who helped out in the kitchen, He reported that the kitchen deposited
over $1700.00 for the Spring Shoot. A contributing factor for the large deposit
was that the NSSA (North South Skirmish Association) Shoot was only one day
because of the weather, this saved the kitchen from having to buy some supplies.
If you are able to donate any of the following supplies to the kitchen it
will be greatly appreciated.
16oz bottled water
12oz cans COKE and diet COKE
12oz cans caffine free COKE AND PEPSI regular and diet
12oz cans ROOT BEER, 7up, Mt. DEW, regular and diet
RAFFLE: Larry Peterson
reported 402 out of 500 raffle tickets had been sold. We sold 26 tickets at
the Spring Shoot. Larry wanted to thank J.B. for watching the raffle package
And taking care of the tickets at the Spring Shoot.
Old Business:
Mike Young talked about ricochets that were happening on the 50 yd. Line
at the NSSA Shoot , and the need for something to be done, probable a berm
of some kind. John Dyer felt the something should be done as soon as possible.
Dick Allen said Chief Okemos was getting a grant from the NMLRA to build a
berm on some ranges. The berm would have to be 25 feet high though. A temporary
stop might be built using the large ties and poles the club has. Don said
he would have Gary Greene work on it.
New Business:
John Dyer talked about the possibility of helping some club members; who are laid off, lost their jobs or on fixed incomes with their dues. The discussion covered Larry Cummings talking about Chief Okemos policy of giving a discount off the $150.00 dues for members who help out; to several members pointing out the fact that our dues are among the lowest of all clubs.
The board will discuss Johns’ suggestion of helping members with their
dues,
If they meet certain criteria.
It was decided it would be a good idea to send out questionnaire on the state of the club; with questions about who’s coming out to the club to shoot or help and if members aren’t what are the reasons, or what suggestions they have to offer. The economy isn’t the best, many club members are getting older and as with many clubs what can be done to revitalize the members.
Mike Young discussed 2 things that came up at the Spring Shoot:
Several people mentioned there was no “over the log” shoot and
the second was; one parent felt there should be more parent & child matches.
Show & Tell:
John Dyer brought in a .40 flintlock, with a 42” green mountain barrel
and a pouch he made.
50/50 Raffle: Winner
was John Dyer.
Next

club and invited them to the Spring and Fall Shoots. The winter woods walk
has appealed to many, also.
Larry thanked everyone who has helped selling tickets at the shows and individually.
Ticket sales are right around 350 as of 4-10-09.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE: Gary Greene reported on the Woods Walk and the Lapier Firelocks show on Sunday. We discussed issues related to the raffle and the legal requirements.
SHOTGUN: Mike Valley reported that he hoped to open the range as soon as the weather permits. He also informed us of the availability of scrap lumber that could be used for the new barn the club is discussing.
RANGE: Mike Young reported that conditions on the range are very wet.
GROUNDS: Larry Cummins reported that we need to plan for a cleanup work detail as soon as the weather permits.
KITCHEN: Nothing to report.
RAFFLE: Larry Peterson reported raffle ticket sales were slow. A picture of the rifle, pistol, powder and salt horn, possible bag, and priming horn will be put on the web site shortly.
Old Business:
The club will have a table at the Kalamazoo Living History on March 21st and 22nd.
The purchase of club hats was approved.
Don’t forget the North South Skirmish Assn. event at the end of April.
John Dyer pointed out the need for competition prizes for our shoots. It was agreed that this is an issue for future discussion.
The importance of mailing newsletters on a timely basis was impressed upon the secretary.
The Big Buck pool was won by Jim Brotherton with a 7 point buck.
The creation of a Projects Committee to be chaired by Garry Green was announced.
Committee budgets are due at the next board meeting.
Jim requested that the club support a campout for a group of handicapped children
in our camp ground. The dates are August 14 and 15. He needs to borrow tents
and have members available to do demonstrations. The age group is about 5th
grade.
John Dyer reminded us of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the founding of Lansing. Will we be marching in the parade?
Mike Valley prophetically suggested the need to put gravel in the driveway.
New Business:
Scott Langsworthy reported on issues at the State and National shoots. The National shoot now has a no touch rule. The State has not adopted this rule because it restricts the number of events a person may compete in.
Changes to the rules also have made seven ring targets obsolete. State has a bunch we can use for practice.
The report of a safety incident at a shoot in Wastenau led to a discussion on the qualifications of line officers. We went on to discuss our range rules and the importance of all members respecting them.
Show & Tell: John Dyer showed off a flintlock and two fine pouches.
Bruce Robb exhibited a gun in progress.
Chuck showed off one of his jewels. How many guns does he have?
50/50: Larry Peterson held the winning ticket.

There will be round robin shoot at Port Huron (Blue Water) the third week in January.
GROUNDS:
After a short discussion it was agreed that Larry Cummins will purchase metal fittings for the vertical posts on the range. The fittings are to be set in concrete. Ross McAvoy donated a lock for the door to the target storage room.
Richard Allen researched prices for club caps. With a minimum order of 24, the caps will cost $10.50 and caps with patches will cost $17.50. A discussion of color preferences ensued. Some members expressed a preference for a green and white cap while others preferred the blue and yellow.

TREASURY REPORT
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
The Swamp Shoot had 9 registered shooters and $109 was turned in. Bruce Robb won the rifle and Ron Harper won the trade gun.
SHOTGUN:
Mike Valley said the range is closed for the winter. John Dyer wanted to remind everyone about Ashleys' shoot on December 7.
RANGE:
Nothing to report.
KITCHEN:
Scott Langworthy said the water has been turned off and the drains, including the floor drains, have had antifreeze put in them. Scott asked that nothing be put in the drains.
GROUNDS:
Larry Cummins gave away ten books on shooting and hunting related topics as well as some hunting clothes he claimed that his wife shrank and not because he gained weight. Larry also purchased a metal post support for the 4x4s that support the stringers. Larry wanted an example to show everyone what might be used if the N-SSA comes back and we need to be able to remove and replace the stringers easily. Larry said we would need 14 for the 25 yard line.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dick Allen said he had received prices for the monogramming of hats and badges. Price for the monogrammed hats was $14.00 wit a selling price of $15.00. Badges (for cockades) are $6.00 and are sold for $7.50. The cost for 12 caps and 12 badges would be $240.00. It was decided the purchase would have to go before the board. Larry Cummins wanted to see about getting ball caps with the regular Club Logo on it instead of the Clan Logo; Dick Allen said he would get a copy of the Club Logo and get a price for that.
Terry Shaffer said the Boy Scout shoots went well. Between 7 and 9 boys should get their Merit Badges. Terry also said there is potential for a monthly Scouts shoot.
Don Tilton reminded everyone that ballots have been sent out and need to be returned by Decembers meeting.
The application for a table at Kalamazoo Trade Fair will be sent out at the end of December. A picture of the table attendees will need to be include with the application. John Dyer has agreed to come to next months meeting dressed in his finest for photos. A copy of the raffle license will also need to be included. Fred Clark said he will help with advertising posters.
NEW BUSINESS
DUES ARE DUE-- Please pay $50.00 to JB Brotherton
JB's address at top of page.
Jim Lyons said he would donate a microwave to the Club.
The number of tickets and selling price need to be determined for the rifle raffle. Because the winner will get a custom rifle, custom pistol, powder horn, rum horn, priming flask and possibly a shooting pouch it appears the tickets will be $10.00 and no more than 500 will be printed.
NOTICE!!! Due to a scheduling conflict with Brokenlock
our Turkey Shoot for next year will be October 3rd and 4th, 2009..
SHOW AND TELL
Bruce Robb brought a few of his ramrod pipes he has been working on. Bruce also had a mandrel that he uses for making trade gun ramrod pipes. Bruce had an entry pipe that was peened to cover up an inletting error; the sign of a good gunsmith.
Judd Stead had salvage lead for sale with all proceeds going to the kids shoot. Bruce Brugge was the first in line.
50/50 winner was Larry Peterson who donated the winnings back to the Club.
CONSTITUTION:
The last proposed change has been mailed along with the ballots for Club officers. Votes will be tallied at the December meeting so please mail the ballots back in a timely fashion.
SPECIAL THANKS
Eric Lau shot a doe during gun season down on the 200 yard range and she took a couple of bounds and ended up in 2 ½' of water. Eric didn't have any waders and Ron Harper at the trailer didn't either. Eric saw Jim Brotherton and Mike Valley at the Clubhouse and asked them if they had any waders. Neither had waders but said lets go get her. Well Mike waded in water over his boots to retrieve her, did most of the field dressing and hauled it up to the truck too. Eric wanted to let them know how much he appreciated it and wanted to let “the other members know what fine young men they are”.

TREASURY REPORT
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Gary Greene said not much going on down at the primitive range other than the area needs general mowing and pruning. When members come out to work on the area bring loppers and saws.
Mike Valley said the targets were overgrown but Mike and his son were able to clean them up pretty good before taking the church group through. Mike’s Church group had a lot of fun.
SHOTGUN:
Mike Beaty was happy to announce the LMLGC team beat Ashley’s Sportsmen Club to bring the revolving trophy back to Laingsburg. Mike said the scores were tallied twice and Laingsburg won by 1/10 of a bird average. And best of all everyone had a good time.
Mike also wanted to remind everyone that the Grayling September hunting and fishing trip is a great time with an excellent place to camp, hunt and fish. The only noise was an occasional jet or some gunfire from the National Guard base. At last years camp they had deer come almost into camp. There is no cost to camp; a free permit is available at the DNR office in Grayling.
RANGE:
Nothing to report.
KITCHEN:
Donations are still needed for the kitchen. There is still the Fall Shoot and Turkey Shoot.
NOTE! --- The kitchen has plenty of mustard and hot sauce; those items no longer need to be donated.
A list of items was suggested to ask for as a donation to the kitchen. Remember a reduction in kitchen expenses lowers the costs in providing meals and increases the profits generated for the club. Please supply the items as requested i.e. 12 oz cans of pop fit compactly into the pop refrigerator, “Dixie” plates are not as flimsy as paper or Styrofoam.
Pop-12 oz cans of: Coke Diet Coke caffeine free Diet Coke Pepsi Diet Pepsi caffeine free Diet Pepsi caffeine free Pepsi Mountain Dew 7-Up Diet 7-Up Root Beer
Bottled water-16.9oz bottles Lite tuna packed in water Ketchup Miracle Whip Hot Fudge Chef-Mate Chili Sauce (from Gordon’s) Plastic Silverware 9” “Dixie” plates 6” “Dixie” plates Styrofoam bowls for ice cream Paper napkins Toilet paper
If there are any questions or if you can provide any of the items please contact Janet Langworthy. Janet is keeping a list to prevent duplicate items being donated. Janet’s phone number is (517) 394-0140.
GROUNDS:
Larry Cummins had four bids on the cost of getting the new roof put on ranging from $3200 to $4000. The low bid did not include removal of old roofing debris. The next two higher bids were the same and Bret Boettcher was awarded the contract.
Larry Cummings thought if the Club paid half the cost and 40 club members donated $42.00 that would cover the other half of the cost. This would significantly defray the expense to the Club.
Larry again mentioned that the fall Shoot is only a 2 weeks a way and the grounds still need to be mowed, weed whacked and general pickup. Both the primitive and main range needs work.
OLD BUSINESS:
Sheila Valley read a very nice letter from the Baptist Church thanking the Valley’s, LMLGC and the various members who helped at the demonstration/shoot.
Don’t forget there is going to a merchandise shoot during the fall shoot and the club is still accepting donations for this event. The revival of this event seemed to generate a lot of interest during the State Shoot!!
JB wants to keep the future rifle raffle on club members’ minds. This could generate a lot of funds for the club.
NEW BUSINESS
Larry Cummings mentioned that Daisy Greening is not going to be run for Range Officer next year due to retirement plans. Larry also said that by exposing others to muzzle loading, like Mike Valley’s group, we could possibly get new members.
Larry Peterson said he has more shoot flyers if people need more to pass out. Larry also has some with the union bug (label) because some trade locals will not post at their halls without them. Larry said he is still adding to the website; if you have internet access check it out!! Larry said someone has sent pictures to him and he is not sure when and where they were taken, he thinks Pine River. If the person who sent them could please let him have that information Larry would like to include it.
Larry also said the Fall Shoot was posted in the State Journal, members attending the meeting said no date was included. Larry said he would correct that.
Larry Peterson mentioned that he emailed Nick Dittameros at MSU and invited him to the Fall Shoot.
John Streeter asked that a request for roof donations be put in the newsletter.
John Clark said there were no club members out supporting the club during the State Shoot in July. There were no primitive shooters and no line shooters. John also said the club should maybe look into assessing work hours per member like other clubs. The hours could be worked in the kitchen, grounds or helping with the shoots. New members who didn’t get any hours in the first year would be out. Regular members who didn’t work the assessed hours would be fined $10.00 per hour missed. Exemptions would be made for out-of-staters, over age 65 and for health conditions.
Chuck Langworthy wanted to know what’s the matter with the club. Chuck said this is a family club not a man’s club. Members need to get the whole family out to enjoy the club. Teenagers need to come out and use the facility as well.
SHOW AND TELL
Bruce Robb brought a sword and scabbard. The sword was given to him by his mother in law. The sword is suppose to have been in the Spanish American war and is dated before that at 1870. Bruce would like any one that might be able to identify or explain this item please let him know.
Chuck Langworthy had a rifle and pistol set both in .40 caliber that he built. The rifle has had only about 12 shots out of it but the pistol has had about a hundred fired from it. Both are good shooters. Chuck also wanted to remind everyone that a penny ante box is being put out at meetings and any funds collected will go toward a new safety fence.
Ron Harper has been doing some primitive camping and is making some camp furniture. Ron brought a bench and two different height tables he made . Ron also sells these items for $20, $30 and $50 respectively.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Mike Valley.
CONSTITUTION:

COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Gary Greene said he mowed the first half of the primitive range and now would need someone to bale the cuttings.
SHOTGUN:
Mike Beaty said next weekend Ashley was going to have a black powder muzzle loading and cartridge trap and sporting clays competition.
RANGE:
Nothing to report.
KITCHEN:
Scott Langworthy wanted to thank everyone who worked in the kitchen during the State Shoot. All the volunteers really busted their backs helping out in the kitchen.
The following is being included in this news letter again---Don’t forget we still have the Fall Shoot.
NOTE!--- The kitchen has plenty of mustard and hot sauce, those items no longer need to be donated.
A list of items was suggested to ask for as a donation to the kitchen. Remember a reduction in kitchen expenses lowers the costs in providing meals and increases the profits generated for the club. If there are any questions or if you can provide any of the items please contact Janet Langworthy. Janet is keeping a list to prevent duplicate items being donated. Janet’s phone number is (517) 394-0140.
GROUNDS:
Larry Cummins thanked everyone who worked the grounds and helped assemble and put in the stringers. Larry is also trying to figure out the most economical way to make “lay” down stringers if the N-SSA decides to come back.
It was pointed out during the state shoot that vinyl “J” channel might be a better way to hold target backers than the wood ones in current use. The vinyl can take more stray shots than the wood.
It has been asked to be put in the newsletter that every weekend chainsaws, mowers and weed whips need to be brought out to the club grounds and used!!
OLD BUSINESS:
Don’t forget there is going to a merchandise shoot during the fall shoot and the club is still accepting donations for this event. The revival of this event seemed to generate a lot of interest during the State Shoot!!
Larry Cummins said that even though the shingles and other roofing material have been purchased and are on site there seems to be no progress on getting the new roof on. Larry said due to the club members’ age and health issues maybe the roof installation should be contracted out. Larry said he would try to get some quotes on installation.
JB wants to keep the future rifle raffle on club members’ minds. This could generate a lot of funds for the club.
NEW BUSINESS
Scott Langworthy said about a week and a half before the State shoot the Building Inspector got a complaint that building was going on without a permit. The Inspector came out and looked the grounds over and found nothing out of order. The complainant could have been a club member or a neighbor.
Don Tilton said the club received a flyer about the Pine River Squirrel shoot and rendezvous September 5-7, the weekend after our Fall Shoot. Club members have shot there and have had a good time.
The Board of Directors had a board meeting June 28. Monies were not approved to fund monthly shoots due to current economic conditions. The Board did approve of trailers being left at the club all summer if the trailer owners are at the club working.
Fred Curtis has come up with a new design for a medal.
Larry Peterson said the clubs’ web site is still getting good hits. Also Larry has more shoot flyers available for the fall shoot if any members would like to pass them out. Larry also said Nick Dittameros from the MSU newspaper would like to come out for our fall shoot.
Mike Beaty said in response to deer TB an early antlerless deer season will take place Sept.18 thru Sept. 22 on private land
in Zone 3.
SHOW AND TELL
Bruce Robb said he is still trying to shame others into bringing items for show and tell.
Chuck Langworthy brought a .45 caliber rifle he has been building. The rifle has a wild cherry stock that Chuck said is very difficult to work. Chuck said he was very lucky when he drilled the ramrod hole and was able to drill it true. The stock has 3/8” cast off.
John Dyer had a belt pouch he made for Stu Besonen. The leather pouch was trimmed in pigskin and dyed chambray leather. The flap is held closed with an antler button
The 50/50 raffle was won by Mike Young. $25.00 was donated back to the club.
CONSTITUTION:
Ballots for bylaw changes were mailed out July 21. Will all members please return your ballots as soon as possible after receiving them? The ballots will be tallied at the August 10 meeting.

The Meeting has been moved from the 13th because
of the schedule conflict
with the State Shoot
TREASURY REPORT
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Stu Besonen said there was a light turnout at the primitive range for the
Spring Shoot.
SHOTGUN:
Mike Valley said approximately $500.00 was made during the Spring Shoot. Mike
also said the Shotgun committee needs to come up with a better plan for prizes.
Mike Beatty invited the “visually impaired” to come out to the
weekly shoots.
Mike Valley said the first place aggregate prize for the Fall Shoot will be
a shotgun.
RANGE:
Nothing to report.
KITCHEN:
Scott Langworthy thanked every one for the help during the Spring Shoot and
for all the donations to the kitchen. The donated food and kitchen supplies
really cut costs of operating the kitchen.
The following is being included in this news letter again---Don’t forget
we still have the State Shoot and the Fall Shoot.
A list of items was suggested to ask for as a donation to the kitchen. Remember
a reduction in kitchen expenses lowers the costs in providing meals and increases
the profits generated for the club. Please supply the items as requested i.e.
12 oz cans of pop fit compactly into the pop refrigerator, “Dixie”
plates are not as flimsy as paper or Styrofoam.
Pop-12 oz cans of: Coke Diet Coke caffeine free Diet Coke Pepsi Diet Pepsi
caffeine free Diet Pepsi caffeine free Pepsi Mountain Dew 7-Up Diet 7-Up Root
Beer
Bottled water-16.9oz bottles Lite tuna packed in water Ketchup Mustard Miracle
Whip Hot Fudge Chef-Mate Chili Hot Sauce (from Gordon’s) Plastic Silverware
9” “Dixie” plates 6” “Dixie” plates Styrofoam
bowls for ice cream Paper napkins Toilet paper
If there are any questions or if you can provide any of the items please contact
Janet Langworthy. Janet is keeping a list to prevent duplicate items being
donated. Janet’s phone number is (517) 394-0140.
GROUNDS:
Larry Cummins said Gary Greene had asked if it was okay to start working on
the 100 yard range. Larry also asked J.B. how he would like the stringers
and celotex set up for the Fall Merchandise shoot.
Mike Beatty said there are dead and dying ash trees that need to be removed
and that this would be a good supply of firewood.
OLD BUSINESS:
John Streeter said shingle prices have gone up 3 times since the original
quote.
Don Tilton said we need to find some one to take charge of the roofing project.
Club members were asked if anyone would like to take charge of ordering and
getting the shingles delivered. Gary Greene will need to be gotten a hold
of to get new prices on roofing material.
John Dyer asked if the board has had a chance to look at John’s suggestion
for shoot monies. There has not been a board meeting so this request hasn’t
been looked at yet.
NEW BUSINESS
Nick Dittameros from the MSU newspaper called and wanted to do a story on
muzzleloading during the Spring Shoot. Nick came out and spent the day with
the primitive group.
The N-SSA wants to come back and there is a possibility of establishing a
long term arrangement for the use of our facilities.
Larry Peterson said the web site registered a lot of hits even though the
counter was not working for a period of time. Larry also was thinking of adding
an “excuse” section and a recipe section to the web site and would
like contributions.
SHOW AND TELL
Bruce Robb brought back his “manly” fowler to show progress to
date. Bruce has installed a coin silver thumb piece and has had a ball mould
made. Bruce has also been making items out of rawhide. These items included
a bullet bag, a shot flask and two knife sheaths one which incorporated the
use of copper wire and one which had a rawhide liner.
John Dyer had a rifle that was built by Mike Mitchell. John bought this rifle
without a lock after Mike’s passing. Apparently Mike use to remove and
hide the locks from his rifles when he went on vacation and that is presumed
why this rifle had no lock. John was able to make a large Siler lock fit with
slight modification to the trigger plate. The gun is a .45 caliber and has
a sheet brass trigger guard.
The shotgun group will host a shoot before next months club meeting starting
at 9:00 am. On the Sundays that the shotgun group hosts a shoot before the
meeting, there will be no weekly Saturday shoot.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Don Tilton. $19.00 was donated back to the club.
Larry Cumming donated a priming flask to the upcoming rifle auction and asked
other club members to donate like items.
CONSTITUTION:
Ballots for bylaw changes will be mailed out in the beginning of July. Will
all members please return your ballots as soon as possible after receiving

The Next Club Meeting Will Be At the Range June 15 at 1pm
--- John Dyer will be hosting a rifle shoot before the meeting ---
-- Start time is 10:00 am. $5 entry and bring a blanket prize worth $10 --
TREASURY REPORT
JB started off the meeting with the announcement that the N-SSA shoot held earlier in the month brought in a nice profit for the club after expenses. Approximately half this amount was generated by the kitchen. JB expressed the hope that we can continue to host this event in the future.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Gary Greene was not available for a report. John Dyer brought turkey feathers donated by Terry Hadenak to give to the primitive group.
SHOTGUN:
Mike Beatty said they have been shooting on Thursday nights. Mike also said the shotgun range could be opened on Saturdays instead of Thursdays if there was enough interest. Enough people at the meeting expressed interest in Saturdays so Mike said unless it is raining, the shotgun range will now be open on Saturdays at 1:00 pm instead of Thursday nights. Come on out and give it a try!
RANGE:
Nothing to report.
KITCHEN:
Scott Langworthy extended a thank you to everyone who helped out during the N-SSA shoot including but not limited to: --the kids who emptied out and collected pop cans
--the people who worked the snack tent
--the people who cleaned the outhouses
--and the people who cycled through the kitchen giving the regulars a break
The following is being included in this news letter again---Don’t forget we still have the Spring Shoot, State Shoot and the Fall Shoot.

If there are any questions or if you can provide any of the items please contact Janet Langworthy. Janet is keeping a list to prevent duplicate items being donated. Janet’s phone number is (517) 394-0140.
GROUNDS:
Larry Cummings said they will need help with mowing, trimming and general clean up. Larry also needs help getting numbers back on the hundred yard stringers. Workers are asked to bring cordless drills with square head driver bits and squares.
Bob Greening is going to make up 72 target brackets.
Larry said a method for doing a quick change on the stringers and numbers will have to be developed if the N-SSA ever comes back.
OLD BUSINESS:
Don Tilton thanked every one that helped with the N-SSA shoot. Don stated that initial feed back from the N-SSA was very positive; particularly about the kitchen.
John Streeter got a price of $40/square for shingles. This is a 30 year shingle and the price includes ice guard and felt. John also said he knows a young man with a trailer who would haul away the old shingles. We would have the use of it for two weekends for $375.
Don Tilton stated we need to get moving on the roof.
NEW BUSINESS
John Dyer stated he has been trying to win the military/civilian shoot at Chief Okemos Sportsmen Club for 28 years and finally did it on the winning team of John Dyer, Ron Harper, Larry Boettcher and Brett Boettcher. Brett also won the Pa Keeler match beating out his father in the process. Apparently Brett was red hot and won just about every thing including the door prize.
Scott Langworthy announced that last weekend Seth Hootman donated a custom rifle and pistol set to the club for a raffle. Scott said at some point we need to come up with a plan for a raffle to get the most benefit from this especially generous donation.
Jim Snyder thought it would be a good idea to have pictures to show people when we are trying to sell raffle tickets.
John Dyer said he would make and donate an elk skin shooting pouch.
Bruce Bruegge said he will have a horn made and donate it to the club.
Scott Langworthy again said lets approach this in a well thought out manner.
Seth will be back by the Spring shoot to give us more detail on the rifle and pistol and his thoughts on the raffle.
Stu Besonen got a bunch of cardboard donated for target backers. Larry Cummins has been cutting them to a 24” x 24” size.
Next weekend the club grounds need clean up and firewood needs to be cut-bring chain saws.
Help is needed for the Spring shoot – even a few hours one day will help immensely.
John Dyer said there use to be various contests during the Spring shoot i.e. frying pan toss, log sawing and the like. John said if some one can supply the logs and buck he would supply the two man cross cut saw for a log cutting contest. Brett Boettcher said he will bring the logs and buck.
Larry Peterson said he is still looking for historical articles about the club for the web site. Larry also said he received a letter from an Argentina company that sells muzzleloaders and cannons that asked if a link from our web site to their company can be made. It was.
Larry also had an unidentified tool he had bought at a garage sale and asked if anyone knew what it was. The item in question was identified as a pair of fence pliers.
50/50 raffle was won by Bruce Bruegge who donated $27.50 back to the club.
A special thank you to John and Dee Clark for the donation of sixty chairs to the Club house!!
Motion to adjourn made by John Streeter, 2nd by Larry Cummins.

TREASURY REPORT
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Gary Greene commented that as of the last Trade Gun Round Robin at Attica’s range LMLGC members are shooting about the middle of the pack. Laingsburg club members are becoming known by name by the participating clubs and a lot of contacts are being made. Also, participating in this Round Robin has given us a jump this years shooting.
SHOTGUN:
Hoping to get Thursday night shooting going again as soon as the mother nature cooperates.
RANGE:
With the Spring shoot fast approaching there is a lot of work that needs to be done to the grounds and range. A few hours by many members will make a big difference. Also members are needed to help out during the Spring shoot weekend-----in the kitchen, at the line, kids events, etc. Again your participation for a few hours makes light work for all.
KITCHEN:
A list of items was suggested to be asked for as a donation to the kitchen. Gary Greene said Wednesday nights have become a work night and people can show up between 3 and 4 in the afternoon to lend a hand.
The gate combination will change April 26. The new combination will be xxxxx.
OLD BUSINESS:
Don Tilton had a day off from work and went to the County to straighten out the assessment for the club campground. The County said they would forward the corrected information to the State.
NEW BUSINESS
The N-SSA lease has been signed and returned.
Eric Lau asked that information about and any help available for the "Michigan Youth Hunter Education Challenge" (MYHEC) be put in the newsletter. MYHEC needs help with the muzzle loading event. Volunteers would oversee safe loading, handling and use of the guns. The event is scheduled for August 23-24 at Capitol City Sportsmen Club. The Club is located north off Saginaw highway on Canal Road. If you can help, please contact Debbie Pinkle at statemyhec07@aol.com . Eric said this is very rewarding and a chance to get more kids into shooting muzzle loaders.
Bob Greening donated 200 .50 cal round balls for the kids shoot. Bob also donated a wood shooting box for the merchandise shoot.
Jimmy Lyons donated powder for the kids shoot as well as several knives for the merchandise shoot.

I am sure these would be returned after copying. -A tips and hints section -For pictures submitted in the future use a digital or modern camera; no disposables. -Would like to include a copy of our range rules.
Check out the site at: www.lansingmuzzleloadinggunclub.com
Gary Greene wanted to know if the cost of disposal for the old roof was known. JB said a price wasn’t received yet and will ask Jim to follow up on. Gary will pick a date for the reroof to start and a concentrated effort will be required to replace the old roof as quickly as possible.
Mike Beatty said a combination squirrel, partridge, woodcock and fishing trip is being planned for the last weekend of September. The location is east of Grayling for all folks interested.
Eric Lau reminded everyone of the inter-club shoot at Brokenlock May 10. The traveling trophy is awarded to whatever club has the highest scoring four shooters.
Larry Cummings wanted to remind everyone of the flammability of linseed oil and to be careful where you dispose of rags.
SHOW AND TELL
Eric Lau brought a left handed southern mountain rifle he has been working on. The rifle is based on an Eastern Tennessee or Western North Carolina rifle. It is a .50 caliber with a Siler lock.
Eric’s second project is an over the log gun. The barrel is 11/2" across the flats and is .45 caliber. The barrel itself weighs 211/2# and has an elongated dovetail site to allow adjustment for individual eye relief. This gun has a Siler lock also. Eric also mentioned that he shot at the Alvin York Shoot and attendance seemed to up in numbers.
Ron Harper brought a replica 1847 Colt Walker revolver made by Uberti. The pistol is .45 caliber and is loaded with 60 grains of powder. The gun weighs 41/2# and has a 9" barrel. Ron mentioned four of these pistols were typically carried on horseback. The gun was sighted in at 75 to 100 yards and was the most powerful handgun until the 1950’s when the .357 magnum came out. The holster was made by club member John Dyer.
Mike Beatty had two books concerning the French and Indian War era. The first book "Empires Collide" is a historical account of the F & I War from 1754 to 1763. The second book is "The War Trail". Mike said this book was a novel with a lot of information on herbal medicine and nature. Both books were highly recommended.
50/50 raffle was won by Mike Beatty who donated the money back to the club.
A special thank you to Daisy Greening for bringing cookies and to Gary Greene for "Taco’s in a bag".
John Dyer concerned about the lack of interest in monthly shoots thought if cash prizes were awarded it might bring more shooters out. John made a motion for $600 to fund the monthly shoots. To qualify for monies a member would have to shoot, pay $5 and put name in the drawing. Motion was seconded by Ron Harper. It was decided that the request would have to before the board as an appropriation request.
Motion to adjourn made by Larry Cummings, 2nd by Larry Boettcher.

TREASURY REPORT
I would like to thank Scott Langworthy for taking notes for me. I was unable
to attend due to a family medical emergency.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS
PRIMITIVE:
Gary Greene said that the first club sponsored Smoothbore Round Robin had
8 first time attendees, as well as 15 of our own club members. Everyone was
glad to have use of the clubhouse and everyone had a good time!!
SHOTGUN:
Mike Valley gave the 2008 budget to Don Tilton to present to the Board. Mike
and his crew are working on setting up Friday night shoots on a trial basis;
more info to come in the future.
RANGE:
Nothing to report.
KITCHEN:
Nothing to report.
GROUNDS:
Larry Cummings talked about having to replace the blades on the mower. The
cost will be about $500.00 because it takes two sets or kits. Talk then moved
to whether we should repair or replace the mower. Larry said there was nothing
wrong with the mower except the blades.
CONSTITUTION:
The board has approved most of the proposed changes to the Club Constitution
and a vote on these changes will be forth coming. As in the past, the proposed
changes will be mailed to all current members to vote on. Please be sure to
vote and to return all ballots!!!!!!!
OLD BUSINESS:
The Club web site has been updated. Thanks guys. Fred and Larry have done
a great job---check it out if you get a chance.
NEW BUSINESS
Mike Valley talked about the cracks or separations in the ceiling. Mike thought
they might be caused from the floor not being poured thick enough. After some
talk it is believed it has come from the room being heated and cooled then
heated through out the winter since the kitchen does not show the same problem.
JB said that we received the new tax assessment and yes surprise they went
up.
The city of Charlotte would like us to set up a demonstration at their Frontier
Days event, anyone interested drop John Dyer a line to get more information.
Mike Valley is getting more information about a group at his church who would
like to come out to the club and watch and participate in a demonstration.
Seth Hootman talked about MSU’s shooting team and the range they are
building. Seth is going to keep in touch with them and keep us updated to
see if we can somehow get together.
JB received a letter from the county about our yearly campground inspection;
they now think we have 40 modern campsites—not 50 primitive sites.
SHOW AND TELL
Bruce Robb brought in a jig and showed how to make chain for a pick and whisk.
Bruce told us he has a real problem, he’s hooked on the internet and
new tools. He always comes up with something of interest each month, keep
‘em coming Bruce!
Seth brought in a couple of Russian knives, one was the last one made by the
factory and the other was a Damascus type but was engraved. Both were real
nice. Seth also brought in a saber, the same type used by the Russian Cossacks.
Seth also donated a stove and knife for the fall merchandise shoot. Thanks
Seth!!
50/50 raffle was won by Larry Cummings who donated the $24.00 back to the
club.
OTHER STUFF
Eric Lau sent an email wanting club members to know that on May 10, Brokenlock
will be hosting an interclub shoot. It costs nothing to shoot and a shooter
can shoot for every club he/she belongs to. The top four shooters from the
same club have their scores added together and the club with the highest score
wins. Eric made a plaque a few years ago and the club who wins has their named
added to it, gets to hang the plaque in their clubhouse for the next year
and hosts the following years shoot. Brokenlock will have a bite to eat and
the match will be a woodswalk. It’s a good way to get together with
other clubs and get to know each other and have fun at the same time. Eric
wants to encourage all the members to come out and shoot.
Bob Mills wanted to let club members know that he has two muzzleloaders for
sale. Both are Thompson/Center guns.
1) .45 cal. 29” barrel, brass trimmed percussion Hawken for a right
hand shooter. Price is $150.00
2) .54 cal. 26” barrel, no brass, sling eyelets, percussion also for
a right handed shooter. Price is $150.00
Bob’s phone number is 517-393-2390
